The Promise of Giving

A Promise for Giving Tithes, Offerings, and Contributions

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38 NIV).

I’d like to challenge your faith about giving.

Whether you’re a regular giver or not, your contribution is an opportunity to grow and test your faith.

Jesus told us to expect to be treated, the way we treat others.

If we pass unjust judgment on others, we should not be surprised when others unjustly judge us.

The same goes with our treatment of God.

If we give to God, expect Him to give to us.

Jesus made a promise in Luke 6:38:

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38 NIV).

Now, you may never have thought of purchasing God’s obligation to give back to you, simply because you made a meager contribution — and, you’re right — because God’s obligation can’t be purchased or hired! God is no man’s fool.

God gives because He returns in kind to us the way we treated Him.

If we give grudgingly, desiring only to fulfill a forced obligation in our giving, then God will curse our blessing.

But, if our giving is heartfelt and desiring to please God, then His giving will be abundant and an opening of the windows of heaven to us.

Let us pray.

Father, we love You and pray our giving is a well pleasing sacrifice. Honor Yourself, bless Your name, establish Your Church, and magnify Your promise.

In the majestic name of Your One and Only Son Jesus, we pray.

Amen and amen.
