Father of Lies

When we lie, we own the devil as our father and practice the same evil desires as Lucifer, when he coveted God’s glory. Lucifer murdered the Almighty in his heart, when he refused the truth that all glory belongs to the Most High. Denying the truth of our Creator’s worthiness of all glory is the foundation of all lies. “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44 KJV). If simply not declaring all the facts about a circumstance is lying, then would a photograph where a house appears larger than it is, be lying? Intention is obviously the point. Do we see God as unworthy of His glory? Then we murder God in our heart. LORD, may we exalt You in our heart as worthy of the glory due You. May we not be those, who say, I know You, and keep not Your commandments, and be accounted a “liar, and the truth is not in [us]” (1John 2:4). Bless Yourself. Return quickly. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God Votes His Conscience

Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever” (Daniel 2:4 KJV) is probably as close to “Abraham Lincoln for President” (1864) as OT political slogans go. Should Christians take sides in political contests? Especially in political democracies, Christians may be divided on political issues much as they may differ on matters of church doctrine and polity. For the sake of the Body of Christ, Christians should especially seek solidarity with Christians. Paul advocated Christians to allow themselves to be defrauded rather than taking a brother or sister to a secular, civil court to gain justice (1Corinthians 6:1-7). Participation in politics lends itself to the acrimony of manipulation and maneuvering for advantage well known to survival of the fittest earth dwellers. Can a candidate be known as a seeker of the common good? Was the expression, Honest Abe, only apocryphal? Joseph, Naaman the Syrian general, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus, Esther, Mordecai, the Ethiopian eunuch, and Cornelius the Roman centurion saw a measure of godly leadership in secular government. “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it” (1Peter 3:10-11 ESV). Our God will enthrone whomsoever He will to accomplish His purposes; and consistent with this, He simply demands on our part an honest hearted faithfulness of voting our conscience. LORD, You are the Judge of our hearts. Establish truth seekers and truth speakers in the land. Cause us to vote our conscience, and to be accountable to You, since our loyalties belong to You. O Lord, return quickly, in Jesus’ name. Amen. “Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him” (Psalm 140:11 KJV).

What’s Real, What’s Not?

With generative-AI tools, our ability to determine genuine content online or on social media is becoming increasingly difficult. Finding content on this blog, Tik Tok, or Wikipedia does not establish its veracity or truthfulness. We are required by God, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1Thessalonians 5:21 KJV). Government agencies, internet search engines, or social media gatekeepers may be entrusted to filter the garbage or trash, but it will come with the inevitable cost of limiting free speech. Compare everything to Jesus, who is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). The Word of God is the tool Christ has given to filter everything. “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth” (17:17). God has given us His Spirit to determine what’s real. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1John 4:1). If we leave the determination simply to human gatekeepers, then we will inevitably be deceived and deserve whatever we get. LORD, raise up Your people as truth speakers and discerners of the truth. Create in us a willingness to actively engage You the Truth that we will be able to discern what is false. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
