Dealing With Demons (Part 1)

To Begin With

IN THE NAME OF JESUS, BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, we would say to Satan, the Fallen Angels, and the demons, who attack us and seek to control us, I AM DEAD TO YOU, AND YOU ARE DEAD TO ME! I am a new creature in Christ, old things are passed away! I AM DEAD TO YOU, AND YOU ARE DEAD TO ME! “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20 KJV). “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2Corinthians 5:17). IN THE NAME OF JESUS, BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, we must steadfastly address with confidence the attack of evil thoughts directed against us from the demonic spirits: I AM DEAD TO YOU, AND YOU ARE DEAD TO ME! “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).  No longer will we entertain the evil thoughts directed against us. Amen! Hallelujah!

Demons are burgeoning and permeating everywhere, especially in the Western World, where the Gospel had previously driven them out; but, especially in the West, Secular Humanism has divorced the Supernatural Word of God from science, government, society, education, entertainment, business, and religion, leaving the door open for the demons and gods of this world to return with a vengeance. “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first” (Luke 11:24-26).

Understanding Demons

Demons are not Fallen Angels, but to the best of our understanding, demons are the disembodied spirits of the deceased Nephilim.

Nephilim are the product of cohabitating Fallen Angels with human females. “1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God [Hebrew, bene ha Elohimonly used of angels in OT, Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7] saw the daughters of men [Genesis 3:15, a Seed War to produce a physical seed, i.e., the Antichrist, which would be the antithesis of Jesus Christ], that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years [time left before the Flood came]. 4 There were giants [Hebrew, Nephilim, giants] in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown” (Genesis 6:1-4 KJV).

If you were to counter, Nephilim are only giants of large, physical stature — and not a hybrid of Fallen Angel and human female — then, why would the Protoevangelium specify: “And I will put enmity between thee [the Serpent] and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed [Christ]; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15)? If this divinely set forth the necessity of a physical offspring resulting in a physical Messiah by means of a supernatural union of God with humanity, then why should we resist the idea of Satan attempting the same thing in producing a hybrid Nephilim?

To object that angels cannot reproduce physical children because of Christ’s statement, “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven” (Matthew 22:30), it only tells us of the lack of necessity for sexual procreation in Heaven. Remember, Lucifer rebelled against the Almighty’s directive to keep angels and humanity distinct and separate “after their kind” (Genesis 1:21, 25; 6:20; 7:14). But, it was prophesied in Daniel, “And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay” (Daniel 2:43), pointing to an attempt to mix the seed of Fallen Angels with humans.

Further, the Book of Jude described the evil of the Fallen Angels in their diabolical pursuit of procreation with human flesh, when forbidden by the Almighty. “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” (Jude 1:6-7). Bible scholars agree this reference is taken from the non-canonical Book of Enoch, where the context is clearly Fallen Angels cohabitating with human females. Josephus (first century AD), Jewish rabbinic tradition, and Early Church Fathers all agreed on the concept that Genesis 6 was describing Fallen Angels breeding with human females. This only changed with Augustine (354-439 AD), who advanced the Sethite View, where it was only ungodly sons of Seth, who are the “sons of God” (Genesis 6:2) who married the “daughters of men” (6:2). But, this again, neglects that the “sons of God” in the OT refers only to angels (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7). This became the more respectable, non-supernatural explanation taught and advanced in seminaries, of which I can firsthand testify.

You’re conclusion on this discussion affects your world view, e.g., your viewpoint on the Flood of Noah (simply annihilation of evil humankind or elimination of Nephilim, as well), the Tower of Babel (disobedience to Yahweh only or attempt to create Nephilim, as well), and the overspreading of humanity over the Post-Flood Earth (ancient myths of gods and giants or actual Nephilim building civilizations inexplicable by science). The confrontation of modern science attempting an anthropological explanation of Earth’s past without the benefit of the supernatural is untenable. Science must honestly admit its complete lack of understanding of our Beginning. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7).

Name of Jesus

Why do Christians feel the need to quote Scripture, if the underlying truth can be brought out without citing chapter and verse? So those who are not familiar with the source and context of the truth can determine its veracity. “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11 KJV). In this way, we enable our hearers not simply to be one of our followers, but a follower of Jesus. “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ” (1Corinthians 11:1). And, sometimes the context of the truth is so obvious, chapter and verse are unnecessary. “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).

What is so special about the Name of Jesus? We who are so crude we realize not our earthiness in all of its limitations need God’s Spirit to teach us our lowness and His highness. “1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory. 4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. 6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: 7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me” (Isaiah 6:1-8).

The Name of Jesus is not a talisman or good luck charm. It represents the beginning of our understanding of the True God. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6). We take great delight in all of Scripture’s representations of Christ being different from but the same as the Father, since this is the Divine Mystery of the Godhead or the Trinity. Stumbling at such enigmas keeps the Kingdom of God from being filled with those who “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away” (2Timothy 3:5). Cults famously misunderstand these things to their own detriment and often to their own damnation. “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction” (2Peter 3:16).

What is the significance of the Name of Jesus?

First, it is the beginning of our relationship to God, because Jesus is the face of God. “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).

Second, wealth and health are of less importance than the Name of Jesus. “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6).

Third, God focuses our need of salvation from sin and sinning by lifting up the Name of Jesus (Greek, Iēsous, Jehovah is salvation) through supernatural means, such as healing. “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole” (Acts 4:10).

A- From sins: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

B- From sinning: “Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee” (John 5:14).

Third, the Name of Jesus must represent the highest possible challenge to Organized Religion for it to be opposed by the Jews, who were the keepers of the Oracles of God (Scripture). “And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus” (Acts 4:18).

Fourth, the Name of Jesus represents the leadership of those who have been accounted worthy to suffer with Jesus, for “if we suffer, we shall also reign with Him” (2Timothy 2:12). “And when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go” (Acts 5:40).

Fifth, the Name of Jesus represents the greatest threat to the sorceries of the world, and baptism in the Name of Jesus represents the greatest call to loyalty away from the enemy and to the Living God. “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women” (Acts 8:12).

Sixth, the Name of Jesus is the authority to cast demons out of those possessed by the devil, when used by those filled by the Spirit of Christ. “And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour” (Acts 16:18).

Seventh, the Name of Jesus identifies God’s called out assembly the Church, who have been set apart in Christ and called to walk holy as saints. “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours” (1Corinthians 1:2).

In conclusion, all that we seek to know about God can be found in the Name of Jesus because Jesus is not simply made in the image of God but “is the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15), for “in Him should all fulness dwell” (1:19). Our most potent weapon against the enemy of our souls is Jesus, who has given His Spirit (Acts 2:38) not just for forgiveness of our sins but to inspire us to walk in complete obedience. “And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27).

“For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart [Pharaoh’s heart], and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like Me in all the earth” (Exodus 9:14).

“And the angel of the LORD [Pre-Incarnate Christ] said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret [literallywonderful, incomprehensible]” (Judges 13:18).

“For unto us a child [Messiah Jesus] is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

“Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon Him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? They answered Him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am He. And Judas also, which betrayed Him, stood with them. As soon then as He had said unto them, I am He, they went backward [in other words, knocked to the ground by the Name of Jesus], and fell to the ground” (John 18:4-6).

Father, may the Name of Jesus be lifted up to glorify You. May Your power be witnessed and felt, when the Name of Jesus is used. May lives be transformed and demons flee, when all the power of the Almighty is displayed in the Name of Jesus. Cause us to be taught of Your Spirit that the opposition of the Wicked One may be brought to nothing. Magnify Yourself in an obedient, overcoming people. Grant us the inspiration to obey. Most of all, may there be the revelation of the face of God in the Name of Jesus. Lord Jesus, return quickly. In Your Name, we pray. Amen and amen.

Explanation: Name of Jesus

The name of Jesus is powerful because Jesus saves us from the sin separating us from God, whose holiness frees us from the sin separating us from Jesus. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12 KJV). The adversary hates the name of Jesus both because he loses followers, and he can no longer be saved from his own sins. Jesus, meaning ‘Jehovah is salvation,’ seeks to “save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). OT Israel had a limited view of salvation for the gentile world, just as the NT church has a limited view of salvation as only delivering us from the penalty of sin, but not from the necessity of having to sin. “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1Thessalonians 5:23). The “name of Jesus”: (1) is essential to “receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38), (2) was used for a lame man to “rise up and walk” (3:6), (3) was proclaimed, taught, spoken, and “preached boldly” by early disciples (4:10, 18; 5:40; 8:12; 9:27), and (4) was used to command a demon out of a fortune teller, “in the name of” (16:18). Why such critical importance for the “name of Jesus”?  Because Jesus is the tip of the spear, the point of the arrow, the edge of the knife that defeats our true “adversary the devil” (1Peter 5:8), who tempts us to sin. But, of more importance, Jesus has promised to save us from ourselves. “He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:19). Either sin separates us from God or God separates us from sin. LORD, You are the God of Salvation, who is able to save “to the uttermost” them that come to You through the name of Jesus (Hebrews 7:25). We do not want to waste our time with gods many and lords many, but only You. “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11). In Jesus name, we pray. Amen and amen.
