“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee” (Isaiah 60:1 KJV). Grab all of that meaning to light up your understanding for the burdens of today! You cannot handle or overcome present circumstances without God’s light. God’s Word is the Language of the Heart. We, who know Him, rejoice in such language. Isaiah also prophesied of a future time for Israel consistent with the upcoming Millennium. This would be preceded by the Messiah’s Second Coming and Israel’s sudden, miraculous spiritual rebirth — a transformation eclipsing its secular rebirth of 1948. “Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children” (66:8). Our Light is Messiah Jesus, who is the “light of the world” (John 8:12; 9:5), which Isaiah had earlier predicted for the Gentiles. “And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it” (Isaiah 40:5). So much packed into a Good Morning Reveille! Father, we are so blessed to have been chosen to become part of Your people! Truly, may Your Kingdom come quickly! And, may Your will be done on this earth, in the meantime. Cause all that to be so. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Messiah Jesus
Declared All Thy Judgments (Psalm 119:13)
“With my lips have I declared all the judgments [Hebrew, mishpât, act of deciding a legal case] of Thy mouth” (Psalm 119:13 KJV). No wonder our NT conception of the pharisees and their preoccupation with the Law — it was because the nature of the Law is legal. They merely had forgotten the real nature of the Law was to “love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:5) and to “love thy neighbour as thyself” (Leviticus 19:18). We need to beware of their same pitfall, since even the Apostolic Ephesian Church was already reprimanded for having “left thy first love” (Revelation 2:4). Cases decided in the Courts of Heaven will play out “in Earth, as it is in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10). That is the crucial point. The verdicts of the Courts of Heaven are binding on us below. And, to our amazement, Jesus has covenanted, “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (18:18). As if we would be given status in the Courts of Heaven to present cases, which the Judge of All the Earth would consider binding upon all concerned. If an earthly, unjust judge would pass judgment for a widow crying out against her adversary in a human court, “Shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them?” (Luke 18:7). God’s judgments then are more than His complaints against humanity, but they represent our right to petition Him for redress for the injustices not simply of humanity against humanity, but of our Adversary’s unjust holding of the people of this world in spiritual ignorance and the Church in our ignorance of what the Messiah Jesus has come to accomplish. “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me; because the LORD hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD” (Isaiah 61:1-2). Father, cause us to walk in understanding of Your Law, that we would not stumble, where teachers more intelligent than ourselves have fallen, when they beheld with their eyes Your Son. Have mercy upon Israel, and have mercy upon us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Ordinary People
What does “ordinary people” mean? We want the happiness of people needing people, but we fall prey to enshrining the needs of someone other than God as the bedrock of our happiness. “Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD” (Psalm 144:15 KJV). We live in exceptional times, or as Charles Dickens wrote, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” in A Tale of Two Cities (1859). Our sense of “happiness” and “ordinary people” must be tied to the LORD, for Hollywood’s “Ordinary People” (1980) or Broadway’s “People” (1964) [“needing people”] are only a facsimile of the truly blessed people Jesus described. “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). These are the ordinary people, who are the happiest people on earth. Only when our heartfelt sympathy is defined by the LORD, then Charles Dickens’ Sydney Carton’s sacrifice for the happiness of another becomes at all significant. “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.” LORD, may our motivation and aspiration be of Thee, and may the world receive the benefit. Israel: Remnant Seed of the Woman (Revelation 12:16-17)
Israel as the remnant seed of the “woman” (Revelation 12:16) is singled out for satanic wrath, for many reject the worship of antichrist and will embrace the Messiah before the end of the Tribulation Week. “And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:16-17 KJV). Excitement bristles in the Unseen Realm as all eagerly anticipate how the Almighty will conclude the story, while keeping His promise to Abraham of blessing his descendants, as well as the Gentiles (Genesis 22:17-18). Even the earth miraculously helps the fleeing fugitives of Israel, who refuse the worship of the antichrist, and who now “have the testimony of Jesus” (Revelation 12:17). Many speculate these flee to Petra, and pray the prayer, “Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?” (Psalm 60:9). Yahweh will “let none of his words fall to the ground” (1Samuel 3:19), as He secured for Samuel. National conversion awaits Israel (Isaiah 66:8), as her Messiah comes the second time. LORD, Your faithfulness astounds us in fulfilling all Your prophecies. May Israel be preserved and saved to their joy and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, we ask it. Amen.
Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:5)
A scroll with seven seals is opened by the “Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, [He] hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof” (Revelation 5:5 KJV). Messiah “shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and His rest shall be glorious” (Isaiah 11:10). The upcoming judgments of Daniel’s Seventy Weeks (Daniel 9:24) are the forewarned response from the angry Messiah (Psalm 2:12), whom neither the Jews nor Gentiles have fully embraced. LORD, may we fear You as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah rather than that roaring lion who seeks to devour us. Grant us the courage to stand before our enemies, knowing You have got our back. Asking God As Friend
We come to God in the first place because He is our Father, but we are emboldened to pray because He is our Friend. Friends help friends. “And He said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves” (Luke 11:5 KJV). We know that our Friend is well able to give us what we need because He is God Almighty. Even Jesus made it clear we are His friends. “Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14). Here, prayer graduates to intercession for others.
The Audacious Birth of Christ
“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He [Messiah Jesus] come forth unto Me [Yahweh] that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2 KJV). The context of this passage from Micah announced an upcoming military siege of Israel, in stark contrast to a sleepy Bethlehem manger. The reality of Spiritual Warfare meant Yahweh must retake the earthly realm beginning with a demonstration by the Son of Man of the attainability of the sons of Adam to be and do all the will of God through a life of perfect obedience, God’s original intention for man. Our Creator is thus justified. Sacrificing His Son, we are justified. And, putting down Satan’s final rebellion, God is magnified. “Of the increase of His [Messiah’s] government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:7 KJV). Amen.
