Little children asking us to pray about something is unexpected and humbling. My 93 year old mom recounted a story about losing the diamond from her wedding ring more than 40 years ago, when her 5 or 6 year old grandson asked what she was doing. Looking for the diamond that fell out of her ring. Earlier that day, she had been to the bank and other places. She had been looking all over and was at a loss for where else to look. The little guy innocently asked, “Did you pray about it, Grandma?” What harm in doing something as obvious as that? So, they prayed. Upon examining a can full of odds and ends jewelry, Grandma found it at the bottom! They both rejoiced, and the memory of that event continues with my mom to this day. God knew my mom would especially carry that memory with her — not just the specialness of her little grandson asking the question, but God’s reminder to us, “Yes, I do answer prayer!”
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6 KJV).
“Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein” (Mark 10:15).
“Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth” (Luke 15:8-10).
