Belief in creation in 17th century thought fueled the rise of modern science. Christianity’s belief in an omnipotent, precise, and predictable Creator compelled Galileo, Newton, and Boyle. Instead of questioning if Christianity really motivated the rise of modern science, a better question would be, why just then did the Almighty allow it? “But God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another” (Psalm 75:7 KJV).

Is the book of nature written by God in the language of mathematics, or was Galileo only attempting a clever metaphor to prevent papal censure? Ask Galileo. But, more important, did the Almighty smile when Galileo coined those words? “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork” (Psalm 19:1 KJV).
