Even the most humanistic, atheistic believe in prayer, at least in empowerment through appeal to the highest power to which they have any confidence — themselves. Probably just me, but in this 21st century, post-Christian America, I rarely hear the world around me curse in the name of God, like I used to hear. Jesus’ name, to them, is more an exclamation. More likely, the f-word escapes from the lips, when appeal is made to accomplish the innermost desires. But, prayer is essentially an appeal for something to be done by someone who is in a position to do something about it. Any wonder the professed godly don’t much pray? No confidence anything will happen. Make the prayer vague to ensure the lack of answer will not confound any profession of religion. Make the petition quick to affirm to others the duty to pray was performed.

Priority of Understanding
I was talking to a friend, when we were renovating a trailer. He asked me my opinion of education, since I had home schooled my children, and he was completing his last year of high school. I said, “Understanding is more important than knowledge.”

In December 1966, the NBC television series Star Trek had been on the air only three months. National ratings were low, and the sci-fi series had no national sponsors. But, RCA was NBC’s parent company, and RCA manufactured color television sets, which were becoming increasingly popular. A.C. Nielsen conducted a study of the popularity of color television series as opposed to other television series, and they reported to NBC that Star Trek was the highest rated color series on television. Star Trek sold color televisions, and that would not be forgotten by the executives, who would decide if Star Trek would continue to its second season.

Both of the following stories illustrate the glory of God. A trucker was driving his commercial rig en route to Louisville, Kentucky in 1961. In the middle of the day, the clouds became dark, the rain heavy, the roads slick, and the wind blew hard, almost parallel to the ground. Truckers were turning on their headlights, and the apprehensive driver rolled down his window a little because his windshield was fogging up. Suddenly, a small sparrow flew through his open window! It landed on the steering wheel between his hands.

The following is a short commentary on a neglected passage of NT Scripture with the emphasis on the Great Commission and miracles.
Continue readingDifference Between Faith and New Thought
Faith is confidence in God, while New Thought is confidence in self. New Thought is a self-improvement form of the Tower of Babel, encouraging its followers, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves” (Genesis 11:4 NIV). God’s glory is not their goal.
Continue readingGod: Miracle of Existence
The inherent concept of God is miraculous. If a miracle is the intervention of the supernatural, then God’s existence is miraculous. A being who has no beginning or end is not natural.
Continue readingWe Need A Miracle!
The universe is expanding, but energy is running down. Humankind experiences cycles of advancement in knowledge, productivity, and longevity; but continually, cycles of selfishness, greed, and destruction diminish our limited planet. Man’s capacity to build and replenish is far too often outstripped by our tendency to tear down and subjugate. It takes a far greater faith to believe in a natural and growing goodness of humanity to establish justice in the earth than to hope for the supernatural intervention of an infinite God performing miracles in the affairs of humankind. The way I see it, we need a miracle!

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6 NIV).
We do not give Christ the credit to which He is due. In the two millennia since He walked this planet, we have become far too accustomed to the mention of His name without the awe and reverence due Him. “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11 NIV). With the Spirit of Christ’s help through His Infallible Word, we can determine:
- Christ is the key to every lock.
- Christ is the understanding for every problem.
- Christ is the answer to every question.
- Christ is the missing piece to every puzzle.
- Christ is the tool for every circumstance.
- Christ is the genuine to every counterfeit.
- Christ is the unification to all dissolution.
