Purpose of Freedom

“Let My people go, that they may serve Me” (Exodus 9:1 KJV). Are we free to do as we please? Or, are we free for the purpose of serving God? Servitude is onerous other than for the service of God. “Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:29-30). Philosophers may debate the purpose of human freedom and declare it in cherished documents. The masses of humanity will lift the chains of their oppression. The forgotten and unnoticed will find themselves trampled by the weight of life. And, even the Church may be tempted to ask, “How should we then live?” (Ezekiel 33:10). The simplicity in Jesus strips away the pride of man’s understanding requiring only childlike faith in answer to the deep questions. And, with assurance God answers, “I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws” (Ezekiel 36:27 NIV). Inspired to obey. Confirmed in obedience. Truly His yoke is easy, and His burden is light! Hallelujah!
